Using a fusion of Unreal Engine, Green Screen, Motion Capture suits, film cameras with tracking and some movie magic, Barber was transported from a sterile suburban studio into a once-legendary Vancouver club, The Palomar, demolished more than 60 years ago.

The teams involved were, Animatrik, Showcap and Promosa. All with their respective gear, knowledge and personnel. Together pulled off a well polished XR Virtual Concert for Jill Barber and her devoted fans.

Unreal Engines Possibilities Continue to Impress.

For everyone involved, this was a showcase of the possibilities with this technology and what it can do currently and where it could be in weeks, months or years to come. The possibilities are endless and it comes down to having the creative mind to conjure up where this technology can be implemented.

Barber had this to say with her first experience with XR.

"In these times when so many events are forced to happen online, I was pleased to be part of an event that was meant to be online. It was truly the result of collaboration and coming together to do something creative, fun and cool and connected for our audience.

"I think we've been missing a sense of magic. This had magic, nostalgia, stepping back in time and leaping forward at the same time."

Even and Precise Lighting.

Promosa provided lighting for the XR Virtual Concert. With multiple camera angles and a dress that was also green, the lighting for the green screen needed to be extremely accurate. The lights Promosa provided for the show were:

  • ChromaQ Color Force 72

  • ChromaQ Space Force

  • Robe Esprite

  • Robe MegaPointe

The ChromaQ Space Force made up the majority of the fixtures for this event. The Space Force octo is a cutting-edge variable white LED Space Light that is a modern replacement for conventional space lights or soft light sources commonly used in film and TV studios around the world.

The Space Force benefits from cool running, energy efficiency, lightweight design, and minimum maintenance. CCT tuneable between 2,800K and 6,000K, and natively single source, the diffuse nature of its output negates the need for silks or skirts.

The Robes were imported into Unreal and were then able to be seen in the virtual concert and also controlled by the Lead Designer.

The mocap team was very happy with service provided from Promosa and the level of accuracy the lights provided the team with keying Jill Barber.

A successful showcase of an XR Virtual Concert.

With the aid of green screens, motion capture suits and 50 motion capture cameras at the Animatric studio in Burnaby, the crews were able to successfully pull off a two-act show, complete with intermission.
